Many women get lost in the concept of “not looking professional enough” when 99% of the time, that has nothing to do with why the prospects are not buying. This is because most women business owners don’t understand the truth about branding.

Branding is very important but it is more than just the look.

Let’s be clear. If you are constantly changing the brand of your business, that is a reflection of your self-worth.

The Truth About Branding

Many women get lost in the concept of “not looking professional enough” when 99% of the time, that has nothing to do with why the prospects are not buying. This is because most women business owners don’t understand the truth about branding.

When it comes to branding, women are missing the mark and confusing their audience. A large part of branding is understanding all the different stages of it, from where your business idea came from to determining how you’ll package your product or service. Women too often fail to think strategically about their branding, instead making decisions based on appearance instead of substance and neglecting to plan how they’ll market themselves in the future. If you’re interested in effective branding, pay close attention to these three ways women tend to be too concerned with how it looks instead of understanding all stages of branding.

1) Defining Branding
If you’re working on creating your own brand, it’s important to understand how companies and other organizations build their brands. The more you know about branding, the easier it will be for you to craft a strong strategy of your own. When developing your business strategy, try thinking in terms of stages instead of phases. It will help you streamline your plan for success.

2) Developing a Brand Strategy
It’s a common misconception that only big-brand companies need branding strategies. Small businesses, startups, and freelancers all require some sort of branding strategy as well. Having a plan for your brand helps you develop a consistent image and messaging so that you can easily attract and retain customers or clients. This will help ensure you’re taken seriously by potential clients, avoid costly mistakes, and put together more cohesive marketing materials. It’s also important to keep in mind that different stages require different strategies.

3) Why Women Fail at Marketing
If you’re a woman reading this, chances are good that you’ve failed at marketing something at some point in your life. It seems simple—you advertise or tell people about something, and they buy it—but for many women, it just doesn’t work out that way. A recent study shows that 50% of small businesses fail due to poor marketing; if you’re one of those business owners, let us help you understand why.

4) Worthiness
When you’re just starting out in business, it’s hard not to obsess over every word, every social media post and every marketing move. But you have to resist. Because if your goal is brand-building—and who doesn’t want that?—then you need go about it in a certain way. And what I see far too often are female entrepreneurs who talk too much about themselves and then try (in vain) to sell their products or services by telling more than showing. Even worse, they end up apologizing for posting anything at all because it might not be professional enough. If you don’t put yourself out there, no one will know how awesome of a writer/brand/marketing maven you really are.
