Appreciating the Carbon Copies – Modeling
When You Stand Bold and Original, There Will Always Be Carbon Copies.
This is not a bad thing.
It’s actually very flattering. I know I find it flattering when I hear some of my clients saying verbatim some of my sayings to persuade or influence their audience.
Most people would complain.
As a matter of fact, almost everyday I see a status in social media from someone upset because “she stole my stuff”.
Everyone is “modeling” some sort of system or action until they can do it on their own. Just because many are not admitting to it, it’s definitely the case.
If someone decides to “model” you, take it as a compliment.
In fact, I “model” all of the time. Why start from scratch when as Tony Robbins has so eloquently stated “success leaves clues”. There are some great systems and blueprints out there. I happen to use some of the systems by Brendon Burchard, Mike Koenigs and a few others.
Even though I may model systems and blueprints, my stories and my experiences are genuinely mine. I remember during one of my interviews, I was interviewing one of my guests at an upcoming event. She is a wonderful speaker and has been professionally speaking for years. She revealed that early in her career, she would learn stories told by others and incorporate them into her speeches. Until one day, there was a speaker that was on before her and this speaker said almost EVERY story she was going to tell. Talk about embarrassing! She said from that day forward she always told her own original stories because she would never be in that situation again.
